Serena O’Neil
Krefting Research Centre University of Gothenburg Box 424 40530 Göteborg Sweden Phone: +46 031 786 6715 Email: serena.oneil@lungall.gu.se With an undergraduate background in Molecular Biology and Biomedicine in Perth, Australia, my honours and postgraduate projects at the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research focused on the isolation, identification and characterisation of new house dust mite and cat allergens. Under the supervision of Professor Wayne Thomas, the isolation and sequencing of these allergens was followed by immunological studies to determine their allergenicity. From studying single allergenic proteins, my current research involves attempting to understand hundreds of proteins. Since 2009, I have worked at the Krefting Research Centre in Göteborg, Sweden, conducting research into the mechanisms of asthma and COPD utilising a quantitative proteomics approach. In addition to this challenging task, my current research interests also include the proteomic analysis of nasal lavage fluid and nasal exosomes. I have been attending EAACI conferences since 2008 and in the next years I will be more actively involved in the Interest Group of Functional Genomics and Proteomics, as well as the JMA Working Group. As a part of the JMA initiated Mentorship Module, I am benefiting from the excellent work of the JMA. Therefore, I am keen to help develop and maintain, not only the Mentorship Module, but also the education and collaboration of the JMAs of EAACI.
