I have trained in Allergy and Clinical Immunology at Coimbra University Hospital in Portugal. During my training, I had the opportunity of working in two other European Centres of reference where my passion and interest for Paediatric Allergy and for Immunology Research increased enormously: the Department of Paediatric Allergy of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital/King’s College London, led by Professor Gideon Lack, and the Laboratory of Allergy within the Department of Experimental Immunology of Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam, led by Professor Ronald Van Ree.
I am currently doing a PhD at the Department of Paediatric Allergy of King’s College London. This has been an invaluable experience, which has allowed me to maintain regular clinical activity in Paediatric Allergy combined with translational research in the laboratory, where I am studying the immunological mechanisms underlying allergy and tolerance in peanut sensitised children.
My main research interests are in food allergy, anaphylaxis and allergy prevention.
I have been a Junior Member Affiliate of EAACI and regular attendee of EAACI meetings, Post-Graduate Courses and Allergy Schools since 2006. As JMA representative in the Paediatrics Section of EAACI, I believe I can have an important role in establishing an effective communication with young EAACI members to inform about existing opportunities and to recognize specific needs in Paediatric Allergy of both clinicians and scientists. I aim to propose initiatives to promote education and training among JMA who dedicate their professional activity to the care of children with allergic and immunologic diseases and to help aspiring academics to develop their research interests in Paediatric Allergy and Immunology.
