17 million Europeans allergic to food; allergies in children doubled in the last 10 years

Zurich/Venice, 17 February 2011 – About 17 million people in Europe suffer from food allergies, with 3.5 million younger than 25 years. Allergies in children between 0 and 5 have doubled over the last ten years and access to the emergency room for severe anaphylactic reactions has increased seven-fold.
