Networks of Excellence (NoEs) such as GA²LEN have been designed by the European Commission to strengthen European scientific excellence on a particular research topic through the durable integration of the research capacities of the participants.  In the field of allergy and asthma, it also means enhancing collaboration between research centres, between medical and scientific disciplines and also collaboration outside the scientific community with primary care professionals and patients.
