2009 Allergy School in Ancona on Hymenoptera Venom Allergy
University Hospital, Ancona, Italy
03 – 06 September 2009
Insect sting allergy and venom immunotherapy represent an excellent model for the study of anaphylaxis and immune tolerance. Venom immunotherapy is probably the most effective form of immunotherapy available to physicians.
If you want to become a good allergist, start by studying hymenoptera venom allergy and performing venom immunotherapy!
The 1st EAACI & GA2LEN Allergy School in hymenoptera venom allergy will be held in Ancona, Italy, 3rd-6th September 2009, with the support of AAITO (Italian Association of Allergists and Immunologists) and in collaboration with the EAACI Allergy Diagnostics IG. The aim is to educate and stimulate the social contacts between young physicians from all over Europe interested in diagnosis and treatment of children and adults with Hymenoptera venom allergy.
Upon completion of this course participants should be able to:
1. Recognize the new risk factors for the severity of systemic reactions
2. Improve diagnosis of insect allergy
3. Be aware of the recent advances in the understanding of the mechanisms of venom immunotherapy
4. Be familiar with the management of allergic patients through different protocols of venom immunotherapy.

The course will include lectures which communicate basic and advanced knowledge (epidemiology, risk factors, frequent and rare clinical manifestations, diagnostics, indication for treatment, procedure of treatment, efficacy, duration of treatment), interactive practical demonstrations (skin tests, in vitro tests and ultra-rush immunotherapy) and discussion of difficult clinical cases.
