Allergen-specific immunotherapy is a unique treatment for allergic rhinoconjunctivitis preventing allergic asthma and spreading of the disease. Its mechanisms involve modified as well as tolerogenic immune responses, leading to a decrease in symptoms, less medication use and long term benefits. New developments for subcutaneous and sublingual application routes provide promising therapeutic options and will fuel basic and clinical research improving our understanding of allergic diseases and further generating health benefits for allergic individuals accross Europe.

The aim is to educate and stimulate the social contacts between young physicians from all over Europe interested in diagnosis and treatment of allergic rhinoconjunctivitis and asthma applying allergen-specific immunotherapy (SIT) via subcutaneous (SCIT) and sublingual (SLIT) routes.

Upon completion of this course participants should be able to:
1. Understand the mechanisms of allergen-specific immunotherapy (SCIT and SLIT) with inhalants
2. Apply diagnostic tools, indications and contraindications to identify suitable subjects for SIT
3. Select preparations for SCIT and SLIT considering clinical documentation and individual factors
4. Manage allergic individuals with different approaches for SIT, considering safety and risk factors.

Scientific Programme
The course will include interactive presentations which communicate basic and advanced knowledge (allergy mechanisms, allergen biology and development of allergenic  preparations, diagnostics, indication for treatment, application routes for treatment, efficacy, safety aspects), practical demonstrations (in vitro and in vivo testing) and discussion of clinical cases.

All sessions will be held in English.

Target Audience
Young physicians working within the field of immunotherapy. In order to achieve an intimate and collegial atmosphere, to leave plenty of space for discussion and obtain optimum conditions for practical aspects, the number of participants will be limited to 60.

The event will be CME accredited.

Accommodation



The Hotel Ibis Berlin Messe (http://www.ibishotel.com/de/hotel-0657-ibis-berlin-messe/index.shtml),   which was fully renovated in 2009, is located next to the ICC and exhibition center. The center has its own highway exit, so the hotel is easily accessible from all directions. The ICC also has a bus station and the metro (U Kaiserdamm) and commuter train (S Messe Nord/ICC) both stop just yards from the hotel, providing good connections to the center of Berlin. The hotel is 1.2 miles (2 km) from the Olympiastadion, 1.9 miles (3 km) from the Kurfurstendamm, and 4.3 miles (7 km) from both the main train station and Tegel Airport.
Accommodation in a single room is included in the registration fee. Internet connection is available free of charge.

Social activities



Berlin is best known for its historical associations as the German capital, for its internationality and tolerance, for its lively nightlife, for its many cafes, clubs, and bars, for its street art, and for its numerous museums, palaces, and other sites of historic interest.  "Political Sightseeing Tour" (bus tour) will be organized on Thursday, 21st October 2010.

The registration will be open until 1^st September 2010. We expect participants from all over Europe. The registration will be closed before 1^st October in case the expected number of registrations (60) is reached.
