Diagnostic approaches to the allergic patient

Allergic diseases represent a major health problem with great impact on quality of life. A correct diagnosis and identification of offending allergens is necessary to establish an optimal specific treatment for the patients.
The aim is to provide young physicians education and updates within the field of diagnosing IgE mediated allergic diseases; and to stimulate the social contacts between young physicians from all over Europe interested in allergic diseases in children and adults.
Upon completion of this course participants should be able to: 1. Recognize the clinical manifestations of allergic diseases and the indications for allergy testing
2. Recognize the pattern of sensitization and relation to clinical manifestations
3. Know the basic principles and methods for allergy testing in children and adults
4. Perform allergy testing and to evaluate the results in different clinical entities:
- respiratory allergy
- food allergy
- drug allergy
5. Be aware of the recent advances in allergy testing
Scientific ProgrammeThe course will include lectures which communicate basic and advanced knowledge (basic principles, clinical manifestations, indications for allergy testing, diagnostic methods, interpretation of results, novel diagnostic tests), interactive practical demonstration of skin tests and discussion of clinical cases. All sessions will be held in English.

Preliminary Programme. Target Audience: Young physicians working within the field of allergy. In order to achieve an intimate and collegial atmosphere, to leave plenty of space for discussion and obtain optimum conditions for practical aspects, the number of participants will be limited to 100.

Venue and Accommodation
The Hotel Pine Bay Holiday Resort (www.pinebay.com) is located in a beautiful bay surrounded by magnificient nature. Accommodation in a shared double room with another course participant is included in the registration fee. Wireless internet connection is available in the lobby and meeting rooms.
Social activities
The
House of the Virgin Mary, a Christian and Muslim shrine located on Mt. Koressos (Bulbuldag?, "Mount Nightingale") in the vicinity of Ephesus, in Turkey (7 km from Selcuk).
Sirince, a beautiful hill town only 7 km (4.4 miles) east of Selcuk, near Ephesus, in the Aegean hinterland south of Izmir. It's famous for its
wine.
Ephesus, ancient Greek city, located in Selcuk, a small town 30km away from Kusadasi, was for many years the second largest city of the Roman Empire. Ephesus had a population of more than 250,000 in the 1st century BC, which also made it the second largest city in the world. The city was famed for the Temple of Artemis (completed around 550 BCE), one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
Registration feeThe registration will be open until
20st September 2010. We expect participants from all over Europe.
Please note that the registration will be closed before 20st September in case that the expected number of registrations (100) is reached.

Travel grantsA limited number of travel grants will be provided. Priority will be given to participants from low income countries and EAACI Junior members. If you wish to apply for a travel grant you need to present an abstract.

Abstract SubmissionSubmission of abstracts is not obligatory but encouraged. Only abstracts within the field of diagnostic approaches to the allergic patient can be considered. Both scientific work and case presentations are welcome. Some of the cases may be chosen for discussion in the case presentation sessions.
